Young Women’s Group – Allotment 6th August | The Proud Trust

The young women’s group were at the allotment this Saturday and working hard.

We were interviewed by Craig from Exeter University who is writing his PHD on the ways that Universities work with Community Groups while conducting research. He was interested in how we’d all got together to start the allotment and why we kept on coming back. Here are some of the things people said;

“Coming here gets me out of the house and makes me turn off the tv for a day”

“I come here because I want to learn how to grow things so that I can grow my own food throughout my life”

“I didn’t eat many vegetables before I come here but now I know how to cook them I do”

“I’m going to start a horticulture course this year at college because I want to know more about growing”

But it wasn’t all chatting (honest) we harvested peas, french beans, purple and green mange tout, and our potatoes!

Ruby did a great job of clearing the rhubarb patch of weeds and everyone worked hard on clearing a patch for another raised bed.

Well done young women’s group!
